Man Blows Himself Up in Shevchenkovsky Court: Updates on the Suicide Incident and Hostage Situation

The defendant who blew up grenades in the Shevchenkovsky court of Kyiv died in a second explosion, informs July 5 “Kommersant” with reference to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko. According to the publication, it was suicide – the man blew himself up. Two law enforcement officers were also wounded, Kommersant clarifies. It is reported that during the assault, their lives were saved by the shields with which the fighters moved.

Recall, Fontanka reported that on Wednesday in the Shevchenkovsky court, the accused, allegedly while trying to escape, blew up three grenades in the escort building, took possession of a pistol and took the escort hostage.

According to preliminary data, Gumenyuk, accused of a terrorist attack near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2015, tried to escape. Earlier, the media called Gumenyuk a former fighter of the special battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine “Sich”.
