A 30-year-old citizen was arrested, in Lubango, province of Huíla, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), for false identity, pretending to be the director of the office of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to circumvent a public manager
The information was provided to ANGOP, yesterday, Wednesday, by the SIC-Huíla spokesperson, inspector Segunda Quitumba, stating that the suspect was arrested at nine o’clock on Monday, on the outskirts of the city of Lubango.
He declared that the citizen in question approached, by telephone, the provincial director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, introducing himself as the director of the Office of the President of the Republic (Edeltrudes Costa) from whom he requested five tons of fertilizer.
He added that in view of his allegations, the SIC carried out criminal intelligence work, which resulted in the identification and subsequent arrest of the man, who said he was a barber.
Segunda Quitumba reaffirmed SIC’s commitment to fighting crime and assured that legal measures will be taken once morest anyone who persists in such illicit conduct.
With no criminal record, the young man, born in Lubango, lives with his wife and children in the Commercial neighborhood, the largest in the municipality.
Scams using new technologies are recurrent in Huíla, usually involving the names of members of the Government. In 2023, 17 people were arrested for committing these crimes.
