Man accused of killing his mother in Villa Nueva is brought to trial and makes a confession

Paulo Estuardo Martínez Morales, 22, was charged with the crime of parricide and was sent to preventive detention, authorities reported.
The hearing began at 11:50 pm on Tuesday and ended at 1:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, at the Villa Nueva, Guatemala, courthouse.
The judge gave the Public Prosecutor’s Office a three-month period to determine what happened in this case, in which Martínez Morales is accused of having caused the death of his mother when he attacked her with a knife.
The suspect was transferred to the Men’s Preventive Care Unit in Zone 18 of the capital and the intermediate stage hearing is scheduled for November 20, 2024.
In his remarks on Tuesday, The suspect said he was not sorry and that he acted that way because “saint death ordered him to.”
According to police authorities, this person has a criminal record. The first in 2023 for illegal possession of weapons exclusive to the security forces and the second in April 2024 for theft of a mobile terminal.
On Tuesday, August 6, the Municipal Departmental Firefighters reported that a woman was found dead in a house on 1st Avenue “B”, El Paraíso neighborhood, zone 5 of Villa Nueva.

The deceased was identified by firefighters as Karla Valeska Morales, approximately 50 years old, who according to the investigation, was attacked with a knife and Martínez Morales is the suspect of the crime.
Near the building where the crime occurred, authorities found a motorcycle with blood stains, which the alleged perpetrator is presumed to have ridden after the crime.
