We can say that the band Mamonas Assassinas was a true phenomenon of Brazilian culture, but unfortunately, it did not have the longevity it deserved due to a tragic plane crash that ended up resulting in the death of all its members.

In any case, the band’s legacy still lives on through the songs from their first and only album, but as a way of celebrating the musicians’ achievements, the band will soon have a biographical film that promises to be a true tribute. This week, the film got its first trailer.

Starring Ruy Brissac as Dinho, Beto Hinoto playing his real-life uncle, Bento Hinoto, Adriano Antunes as Samuel Reoli, Rhenes Freitas as Sergio Reoli and Robson Lima as Júlio Rasec, the film will cover the members’ journey to stardom and behind the scenes from iconic moments like the recording of the album and the inspirations behind the lyrics.

In the first trailer, we can see how director Edson Spinello, who has also worked on other productions by the band, such as Mamonas Assassinas – O Impossível Não Existe and the series Mamonas, managed to faithfully portray the personalities of the band members on stage, as well as many of his iconic looks.

The script written by Carlos Lombardi will narrate the story starting in 1990, when Mamonas were still known as the band Utopia, ending in 1996, when the plane crash occurred.

Scheduled for release on December 28th, the film is inspired by the band’s old shows, as well as the films Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody.
