Class period of classical songs. There are many musical talents who compose such songs. But why Fasil Ousepachan was chosen to compose a song with a classical touch in Harikrishnan’s? Perhaps because he asked himself this question, Ousepachan took it up as a challenge. Most of the songs that have been released in Ousepachan’s collection of songs are songs that are as soft as flowers and as fragrant as flowers. Even then, he was ready to demolish the usual patterns. That’s why ‘Sayamitapoorva Sayahnam’ is one of the rare songs of Ousepachan even following the passage of time. It was a one-and-a-half song when he proved that he might handle classical songs as well. When the poetry in Kaitapram’s lines melted, everyone who heard said ‘This birth is complete.’ This is the reason why this song lives on as a bright crescent moon among music lovers even following two decades.
Harikrishnans was a film where songs were very important. The songs are arranged while the shooting of the film is going on. Kaitapravam is also available along with Ousepachan at the Prince Hotel in Alappuzha. The song that comes at a crucial moment in Harikrishnan’s storyline was ‘Sayamitapurva Sayahnam.’ At night Gupta wishes to sing in the mukhamandapa and keeps the hymn of the goddess near the veena. But Sudarshan, who wrote the song, was assigned from that song. In the evening, Sudarshanan started singing in rapture, witnessing the lamps. But when he knew that the goddess was rising, that throat was choked. As if the sound does not come out… the song moves in a different direction as the Harikrishnans begin to sing and spread music into that silence. Ousepachan got excited following hearing the story from Fazil. The joy of composing songs mixed with classical music is different. In any case, even when preparing such music, there was an insistence on finding something new in it from the very beginning.
Ausepachan and Kaitapram have a habit of going to the house where the shoot is taking place during the breaks of composing. One day, Mammootty is searching for songs in the middle of Kushalanvesha. Especially regarding the classical song at the end. Ousepachan smiled as he said that it should be grand, mix things up and shock people. Mammootty’s words with love created an excitement. So Samayamitapurvasayanam is the song that I wrote sitting down,’ says Ousepachan. ‘There has never been such an experiment in Navrasa Kannada in Malayalam. So I took Navarasa Kannada itself. Until then there were no experiments with mixing tones and castes. That too became a new experience for the song. Anyway, all those experiments were successful. After hearing the tune Fazil said ok. Later, when writing the song, Kaitapratham was told only to start with any letter in the vowels. So adding s..m.. etc., it was written as Sayamit Apoorva Sayahnam. This is one of my songs that Dasetan also sang with great enthusiasm when he reached the recording. Later I was also on location during the shooting of this song. I went there to give instructions when all the voices were lip-syncing. Mammukka and Lal have done a good job of lip service to it even though there are parts that need to be messed with. An interesting incident happened there. During the shoot, Mammuka stopped me and said, I should not have given you so much work… Before I laughed, Mammuka also patted my shoulder and laughed. Ousepachan says without laughing.
‘This is a song that surprised me. The depth of our relationships is also in that song. Kaitapram remembered the song. Ausepachanee plays the tune while shooting in a house in Cherthala. Writing lyrics for a tune like this is not easy. But I started writing there. After reaching the room, it was completed. With Harikrishnan’s voice reaching the song, it is going to another level. I wrote the song with the insistence that it should flow like a poem. That’s why I wrote ‘Inee Kannier Kanimalarakum’, ‘Patheyam Makak Punyamal’, and I was writing this song without realizing it when I got the first line.’ Kaitapram says.
