BANGUI, Central African Republic, October 11, 2024 -/African Media Agency (AMA)/- On October 10, 2024, MINUSCA handed over a motorcycle-tricycle to the platform of women involved in politics in the Mambere prefecture. This gesture is part of efforts to promote the participation of women in the political process, local governance and development. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Gender Section and the Political Affairs Division of MINUSCA, and it aims to support the active participation of women in the next local elections.

This project is divided into three components, namely strengthening the capacities of women on their role in local governance, the creation of the platform of women engaged in politics, with the mission of carrying out awareness-raising actions to encourage social mobilization around female participation in the political and electoral process, and finally, the integration of income-generating activities to support these efforts.

Cécile Gbabeze, advisor to the platform, expressed her gratitude for this donation from MINUSCA. “This donation will contribute to the generation of income to support awareness sessions and other initiatives aimed at the emancipation of women in Mambere and to promote their political leadership in the run-up to the upcoming elections,” he said. she declared.

Birgit Gorbach, acting head of MINUSCA office for the Equateur region, stressed the importance of this initiative. “The delivery of this motorcycle-tricycle is part of MINUSCA’s support for the government’s efforts to strengthen the participation of women in the electoral process and local governance. This initiative aims to provide the platform with the means to carry out income-generating activities, support the electoral campaigns of women candidates and raise awareness among women about their role as voters,” she said.

The platform for women engaged in politics, set up on June 13, 2024, is the result of training that brought together 40 women leaders. Its objective is to promote the participation of women in political life, the electoral process and local governance, while strengthening solidarity between them. This platform is intended to be a framework for mobilization and synergy of strategic actions adapted to local realities, thus contributing to the consolidation of peace at the local level.

Thanks to this motorcycle-tricycle, the platform will not only be able to facilitate the implementation of its awareness-raising activities, but also generate income to support its members and their actions in favor of greater participation of women in the political life of the region.
