Fifty-five children, from zero to five years of age, died from malnutrition in 2023, in the municipality of Ombadja, Cunene province, 10 fewer than in the same previous period.
The reduction in deaths results from the work carried out in screening consultations in health units, with a view to controlling and monitoring cases.
The information was provided, on Tuesday, by the supervisor of the Nutrition program in Ombadja, Indira Cativa, revealing the admission, into the said program, of three thousand and 485 children with severe and moderate malnutrition.
For him, deaths result from the late arrival of children at health units.
The official appealed to parents and guardians to take the children to the hospital as quickly as possible, to receive food supplements and medical and medication assistance.
The municipality of Ombadja has 394 thousand 964 inhabitants, distributed in the communes of Xangongo (headquarters), Humbe, Naulila, Mucope and Ombala Yo Mungo.
