The names of Evgeni Malkin and Kristopher Letang are on everyone’s lips these days in Pittsburgh.
The two veterans might become unrestricted free agents on July 13. But will they make it to full autonomy?
“Communication still exists between the groups of Malkin and Letang as well as the Penguins, indicated Renaud Lavoie, Tuesday, at JiC.
“There is no one who has made a final decision at this time. As long as these people talk to each other, it’s possible that Letang and Malkin will come back.”
However, there is an important element to consider that might complicate things.
“The new owners are also those of the Boston Red Sox and they let go of Mookie Betts because his advanced statistics were not good, added Lavoie.
“So I hope that if Malkin and Letang stay it will be for the right reasons and if they leave it will be because we have decided to move on and not because of the statistics put forward because they are two very great leaders.”
