He was resuscitated by the medical teams present on site. Coulibaly, 32, collapsed shortly before half-time in his team’s Al-Wakrah and Al-Rayyan match. He was rescued on the spot before being transported to hospital. His club said on Twitter that his condition “has stabilized” and that he is undergoing more comprehensive examinations in the hospital.
The match was abandoned when the score was 0-1 in favor of Al-Rayyan. The match will resume “at a later date” from the time he was suspended, the Qatar Stars League said in a statement.
Coulibaly’s discomfort is reminiscent of that suffered by Danish player Christian Eriksen during the Euro.
Coulibaly played in France (Guingamp and Brest) and Greece (Platanias and Panathinaikos) before arriving in Qatar in 2019. He wore the colors of the Malian national team 26 times, but was not selected for the African Cup of Nations.
