2023-07-01 13:31:05

Dakar, July 1 (APS) – The United Nations Security Council on Friday terminated the mandate of MINUSMA, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, we learned from a UN source.

The end of MINUSMA’s mandate in this African country following 10 years of intervention was marked by the unanimous adoption of a resolution presented by France, reported the United Nations news site.

This development occurred following the Malian government recently called for the immediate withdrawal of the UN mission from Malian soil.

In fact, MINUSMA is thus called upon from July 1st to begin the cessation of its operations and the transfer of its tasks as well as the reduction and withdrawal of its personnel in an organized and safe manner.

The process must be completed by December 31, 2023, in close consultation with the Malian transitional government and in coordination with the countries contributing troops or police personnel, indicates the text adopted unanimously by the 15 members of the Security Council of the United Nations.

Between now and December 31, the day before its liquidation, MINUSMA continues to be responsible for the security of United Nations personnel, premises, convoys, installations and equipment, as well as that of associated personnel.

It will continue to monitor conditions around its sites, escort civilian and United Nations-dressed personnel in their support functions

MINUSMA may also carry out operations to extract United Nations personnel and humanitarian workers in danger and provide medical support, including the medical evacuation of United Nations personnel.
