Bamako -The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Mali Section, recently organized the 4th edition of the National Competition for memorization, recitation and psalmody of the Holy Quran, with the participation of 92 candidates.

The jury composed of members of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Mali Section, selected the finalists from the different religious centers of the country, in three categories, namely the complete memorization of the Holy Quran according to Riwayat warch, the memorization of the entirety of the Holy Quran according to Rwiyat chosen by the candidate and the memorization of five Hizb.

The candidates, who have been selected to represent Mali in the final stages of the Competition scheduled for the month of Ramadan, are Massiré Sacko, Hamza Bah and Youssef Amadou Sow.

In a speech for the occasion, HM the King’s Ambassador to Mali, Driss Isbayene, underlined that this Competition draws its essence from the spiritual relations linking Morocco and brotherly African countries in general, and Mali in particular.

He indicated that this initiative aims to unify the efforts of all the scholars of Morocco and Mali, in order to preserve the religion and the human values which have always prevailed in the ancestral relations between the two countries.

“It is an initiative which can also only contribute to transmitting and inculcating, to all, the benefits of our religion and to protect Islam from ignorance, deviation and extremism”, highlighted Mr. Isbayene.

For his part, the Malian Minister of Religious Affairs and Worship, Mahamadou Koné, indicated that the Kingdom of Morocco attaches great importance to the Holy Quran and its memorization.

“Relations between Morocco and Mali do not date from today”, he stressed, noting that the ties uniting the two countries are constantly strengthening.

The Malian minister took advantage of the occasion to express his thanks to the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema for organizing this Competition, stressing that the Foundation is “stabilizing” and that its initiatives are part of the strong cooperation between Mali and Morocco and reflect the centuries-old relationship between the two countries.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Foundation, Mali Section, Houcine Diakité, stressed that this Competition reflects the great interest that HM King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, has in the Holy Quran.

He noted that this initiative aims to encourage the “children” of the Continent to memorize the Sacred Book, to recite it and to be inspired by its words to carry out their daily life.

It should be recalled that the general secretariat of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema organized during this month of January, in coordination with all its sections in Africa, the preselections of the fourth edition of the memorization, recitation and psalmody competition of the Holy Quran.

At the end of these preselections, which took place at the level of the 34 member sections of the Foundation, a winner was designated in each of the three categories of the competition, namely: Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with recitation according to the reading Warch an Nafiâ; memorization of the entire Holy Quran with recitation according to the reading chosen by the candidate and psalmody (Tajwid) with memorization of at least five Hizbs of the Holy Quran.

The winners of the three categories of the competition will participate in the final phase of the competition to be held during the holy month of Ramadan.
