For several weeks, Mali has been experiencing a dengue epidemic. Added to this is malaria which, every year, causes the death of thousands of people. Faced with the surge in dengue cases, the Ministry of Health and Development is deploying several strategies, including the physical destruction of larval breeding sites in public schools in Bamako. It is in this context that the “B” school in Torokobougou was sprayed on Wednesday December 13, 2023 in order to eliminate mosquitoes. It was under the leadership of the Director General of Health and Public Hygiene, Cheick Amadou Tidiane Traoré, and the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Director General of Health and Public Hygiene, Cheick Amadou Tidiane Traoré, immediately indicated that reducing mosquitoes helps reduce the incidence of dengue fever. This is how they undertook actions to spray the sites. Apart from these sites, the spraying of primary, secondary and higher education establishments is also planned. These actions should also gradually extend to other sites, he indicated, before emphasizing that the aim of the spraying is to reduce the density of the vector to reduce the incidence of dengue cases. Spraying is done from early evening until 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., because according to him, it is at dusk that the vector leaves its home and is easily exposed. Regarding the products used for spraying, he reassures that they are approved by the WHO for spraying. “ These are products that we already use in Mali, in several sites where we spray as part of the fight once morest malaria. The same product is effective once morest the dengue vector. There is no danger to the health of the population, because it is a short exposure, it is not a long exposure. So, the population should not be worried. However, while spraying, you must keep your distance. You should not be in contact with the machines that spray so as not to take the insecticide directly on yourself. “, he recommends. Before specifying that mosquitoes, during this period of strong dengue outbreak, are infested with the dengue virus. According to him, if we reduce the number of mosquitoes, we systematically reduce the transmission of dengue.

Aboubacrine Cissé, the Director of school “B” in Torokorobougou, was delighted with the spraying of his establishment which will help prevent dengue fever for children and teachers.
