Malaysian PM Condemns Indonesian Preacher’s Insult of Iced Tea Seller

Malaysian PM Contasts Indonesian Preacher Who Insulted Iced Tea Seller

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently addressed a viral incident involving an Indonesian preacher who verbally attacked an iced tea seller, sparking outrage online. Anwar raised this issue during a meeting with the Malaysian Ministry of Finance, emphasizing that it highlighted a problem of arrogance within religious communities.

Insulting the Vulnerable

“There’s been a lot of buzz in Indonesia lately,” Anwar stated. “A preacher, in a sermon, openly insulted a tea seller. I’ve seen the video, sent by a friend in Indonesia, and it’s been circulating widely. This iced tea seller is among the poorest community members, yet this preacher felt entitled to demean him.”

The preacher not only insulted the seller but reportedly laughed about it, further enraging the community. Anwar noted that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto condemned the preacher’s actions, prompting him to visit the seller’s area and apologize.

A Lesson in Humility

Anwar aimed to use this incident as a learning opportunity for the Malaysian Ministry of Finance. “This situation underlines a significant problem: arrogance,” he critiqued. “It’s unfortunate that even those who speak about Islam, aqeedah, prayer and sunnah can sometimes behave in such a disrespectful manner.” Anwar stressed that these actions are truly insulting, especially when witnessed by others.

“People who understand religion should embody its values, yet this individual displayed the opposite,” Anwar voiced, clearly dismayed.
