Malaysia calls for holding the Israeli occupation accountable for the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today, Thursday, called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to hold the Israeli occupation regime accountable and hold it responsible for the recent attacks on worshipers and the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the occupation forces.

In a series of tweets on his official account on the social networking site (Twitter), Ibrahim described the attacks as a “heinous crime,” stressing the need for the international community to pressure the occupation regime to stop provocative actions for the sake of peace and stability.

In one of his tweets, he demanded the immediate release of all Palestinian detainees and the preservation of the status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif as a holy Islamic site, stressing the strong solidarity of the Malaysian government and people with the Palestinians.

For its part, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned in a statement the illegal actions of the Israeli occupation forces and their flagrant violation and contempt for human rights and the sanctity of the third holiest shrine in Islam, affirming Malaysia’s firm position that the Palestinians deserve an independent state on the basis of the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a separate statement, the Malaysian Minister of Religious Affairs, Muhammad Naim Mukhtar, also called for performing Hajj prayers in all Malaysian mosques tomorrow, Friday, in solidarity with the Palestinians, stating that the Israeli occupation police’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan was “irresponsible.”

It is noteworthy that the occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque at dawn yesterday, Wednesday, and forcibly removed it from the seclusion and worshipers, injuring dozens and arresting more than 400 others. They released some of them yesterday, on the condition that they stay away from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City.
