There they generated projects and advanced on disability issues.

Conferences held in the Provincial Legislature with the presence of different authorities from various institutions that have addressed different problems through an inter-institutional work table called “Derribando Barreras”.

The Conference was organized in three exhibition panels, in which the work and actions carried out by the institutions that participate in this inter-institutional table were deepened; the legislative proposals (already approved and being processed) with the greatest impact or implication in relation to the work of the table, and finally, the different associations of Deaf People and Non-Governmental Organizations will address “Violence once morest deaf women” and forms of accompaniment, as well as concerns, needs and interests of the deaf community.

Opening the act, the deputy Daniela García said: “For me it is an honor to receive the inter-institutional table to generate projects and advance disability issues. As a Legislature and as, precisely, in diversity and plurality, we believe that it is the right environment to hold this type of conference”

He added that “we consider that it is the place to talk regarding those projects and policies that are being worked on in all institutions for greater accessibility and greater inclusion.” The activity has been declared of interest to the Lower House at the request of Deputy García, who expressed in this regard that “in this multisectoral day, the aim is to nurture and unite the joint work between the various and multiple areas of action, planning and management of the State ”.

In this regard, he added that “the World Health Organization (WHO) defines hearing impairment (DA) as hearing loss greater than 25dB -decibel, a unit used to express the relationship between two values of sound pressure, or voltage and electrical power- this concept also includes hearing loss, deafness and professional deafness”.

“Significant hearing loss can affect driving performance and safety. It is usually accompanied by restrictions in daily activity, affecting communication skills and interaction with the environment, having important physical, psychological and economic repercussions”, he pointed out.

Given all of this, “we start from the basis that words configure realities, how naming in one way and not in another accounts for the respect or contempt we have for something or someone. In the case of people with disabilities and language, there is much to correct and learn. The decision made by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) on the term “disability” is a good initiative and a trigger for reflection”
