Maki Threatens to File Pretrial Lawsuit Against Polda Metro Jaya If Firli’s Case Makes No Progress

The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (Maki) has threatened to file a pretrial motion once morest the Metro Jaya Police at the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) in August 2024.

The lawsuit was filed if the case of alleged acceptance of gratuities, bribes, and extortion by Firli Bahuri once morest former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) did not progress.

“As usual, in August, I have announced that I will file a pretrial motion if there is no certainty regarding this case,” said MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman, Sunday (7/7).

Boyamin demanded that Polda Metro immediately submit Firli’s files to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati).

The files of the former head of the Anti-Corruption Agency have not been submitted following being returned twice by the public prosecutor (JPU), to be precise the last file was returned on February 2, 2024.

“And I also demand that the files be immediately submitted to the prosecutor’s office and hopefully it will be declared complete and the person and evidence can be handed over immediately and the trial can be held immediately,” said Boyamin.

He regretted that the Firli Bahuri case continued to be delayed. Moreover, on the grounds of completing the case files of Article 36 of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK which contains a prohibition on KPK members meeting directly with suspects or parties related to corruption cases.

“In fact, that can be done later. What is important is to first resolve the case, one case related to the alleged extortion. So we really regret this,” he concluded.

Firli Bahuri was named a suspect in the case of accepting gratuities, bribes, and extortion of former Minister of Agriculture SYL on Thursday, November 23, 2023. He was not detained, but was prevented and barred from leaving the country.

Firli was charged with Article 12 letter e or Article 12 letter B, or Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code. With the threat of life imprisonment.

Polda Metro is still filing Firli’s case. The former KPK Chairman’s file was returned twice by the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) Public Prosecutor (JPU) because it was incomplete. The last time it was returned by the JPU was on February 2, 2024.

In addition, in the trial of defendant SYL, it was revealed that he had given money to Firli Bahuri totaling Rp1.3 billion. SYL said the money was a form of his friendship with the former head of the anti-corruption agency. Moreover, he said, he and Firli often sat together during cabinet meetings.

The money worth Rp1.3 billion consisted of two handovers. Namely Rp500 million in foreign currency (valas) at the Mangga Besar Badminton Sports Hall, West Jakarta. Meanwhile, Rp800 million through the Semarang Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Irwan Anwar, who is also SYL’s brother. (Z-1)
