Last week, a first-generation iPod sold for $29,000. The sale took place on Rally, a platform that allows investors to buy shares of rare collectibles.
According to studies, the 2001 model of the iPod is still placed in the top position of the most coveted players of the brand with the bitten apple.
In pristine condition and still in its original sealed packaging, the iPod was purchased by the parents of the owner – who was a teenager at the time – as a Christmas gift for US$399 from a newly opened Apple store. in their hometown of Plano, Texas.
“He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with it,” explained Rally co-founder Rob Petrozzo. “So he put it on a shelf and then, inevitably, time passes.” The homeowner came across the historic piece, which was still in the original blue bag from the Apple Store, while cleaning his house following his dad died. “It really is a time capsule,” added Rob Petrozzo.
A private collector acquired the player for $29,000 and became the sole owner of the first generation iPod.
