Majority to raise the minimum wage for all freight truck drivers

– This means that it will be illegal to engage in social dumping on Norwegian roads, and a real wage increase for a great many drivers, says union secretary Dag-Einar Sivertsen in the Federation Free Vocational qualification.

It was after this year’s wage settlement that the Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions and YS demanded that more drivers than today should be covered by the minimum wage regulations. The Tariff Board can make collective agreements public if the public interest requires it.

The decision on minimum wages means that it is not permitted to pay freight truck drivers less, regardless of whether the driver and the employer are covered by an ordinary collective agreement.

Previously, Fafo has mapped that a typical hourly wage for drivers who have not been entitled to the general minimum wage is around NOK 175-180 an hour. The increase in the tribunal on Tuesday will therefore mean an increased annual salary of up to NOK 90,000 for some, writes FriFagbevegelse.

The requirement for a lower limit for who is covered by the minimum wage regulations has been lowered with the decision to include all those who drive goods or lorries from 3.5 to 2.5 tonnes. However, this change, about which there was disagreement within the tribunal, will only come into force from June next year.
