Major search at sea: Diver missing

A diver was reported missing at sea east of Skagen on Saturday evening. This is stated by duty officer Rene Kortegaard from North Jutland Police. They have led approximately half an hour to a full hour of sailing off Skagen.

– There are three friends who are out diving on a wreck out there. What happens and how it happens, we don’t know yet, but one does not come to the surface once more.

– They searched for him out there until around midnight, when the search was called off due to darkness, says Rene Kortegaard.

The dive took place from a civilian diving ship, and the crew and divers of that ship helped search for their missing comrade.

It is the Joint Rescue & Coordination Center (JRCC) that coordinates the search at sea, and from here the message is that no more can be done and has therefore stopped the search for the missing diver.

– The defense has supported with a rescue helicopter and two rescue boats from Skagen, and we searched there for several hours last night without finding the diver, and since we have not found him, he has not come to the surface of the water, and so can We don’t do that much anymore.

– When he is not on the surface, we cannot find him, and we have searched a larger area than it is realistic for him to be in, says press advisor Christen Haven from the Defense Command.

The defense’s efforts have therefore ended, while the civilian diving ship continues the search on Sunday, Christer Haven informs.

The missing person is a man in his mid-50s, and the next of kin have been informed of the passing.

The rescue team has searched the Kattegat halfway to Sweden, where a SAR buoy was put out. The buoy is equipped with a GPS transmitter, so you can follow it and get a picture of the current conditions in the area where you are searching.

The water depth in the area is around 40-45 metres.

The SAR buoy is located in a position midway between Skagen and Sweden.
