2023-04-19 13:48:55

The information was revealed on Wednesday by the daily La Liberté. Formally, the consultation should end on May 12. Contacted by Keystone-ATS, Yannick Ferrari, movement manager at the Unia union, believes that the development is not a surprise, but is surprised at its speed. The site employs 439 people.

Unia wants to assess the will of the staff and understand the reality of the situation. According to La Liberté, some 260 employees are potentially affected by dismissal. Parker Meggitt designs and manufactures a range of sensors and electronic systems for the aerospace and energy sectors.

New owner

The reduction in the workforce envisaged results from “the need to reduce the complexity of activities on the site, to optimize the organizational structure and to reduce operating costs in order to maintain its competitiveness”, we still read in the Friborg daily which cites a position of the company.

The restructuring comes as Meggitt joined Parker Aerospace last September, following the takeover of the British group Meggitt by the American multinational Parker-Hannifin. The operation was validated by the shareholders in September 2021.

The cantonal authorities have been informed by the company of the opening of a consultation procedure. State Councilor Olivier Curty, in charge of the economy, remains positive due in particular to the “very high level of qualification and strong technological skills” of the Villa site.

Under the Meggitt era, the latter experienced several episodes of collective layoffs. In 2020, 36 jobs were shelved, out of a total of 504, in response to the brakes caused by the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, recalls La Liberté in its article.
