Nguyen Tien Thanh highlighted the meaning of the initiative, stating, “The book donation is not only notable in promoting the reading culture and enhancing the use of Vietnamese language among overseas Vietnamese, but also plays a role in fostering national pride, promoting cultural exchange activities, and introducing the image of Vietnam to the international community.”
With a history spanning nearly 70 years, VEPH has consistently prioritized community-oriented programs, ensuring its publications benefit generations of students and educators. the association has overcome numerous challenges to remain a trusted companion to readers across Vietnam.
Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh shared that over 100,000 Vietnamese people reside across 20 provinces in northeastern Thailand. He emphasized the importance of the donated books in preserving the Vietnamese language and culture. “The Vietnamese books from VEPH are an invaluable gift,” he said.
In recent years, VEPH has actively supported the overseas Vietnamese community by providing books and participating in the “Vietnamese Language Day” project (2023-2030). Through collaborations with Vietnamese representative agencies and the State committee for Overseas vietnamese Affairs (SCOVA), the publisher has donated “Vietnamese Language Bookshelves” to communities worldwide.
These efforts have created spaces for learning and reading Vietnamese, encouraging expatriates to embrace their native language. ”This reflects the deep love for the Vietnamese community abroad,” Linh added.
During the event, VEPH and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen discussed plans to expand cooperation, including organizing Vietnamese language teaching workshops. These initiatives aim to preserve and promote Vietnamese language and culture among the 20 provinces in northeastern Thailand.
Sence 2022, SCOVA and VEPH have worked together to establish ”Vietnamese Language Bookshelves” in various countries and territories.In 2023, bookshelves were donated to Vietnamese communities in Fukuoka (Japan), Budapest (Hungary), Taiwan (China), Paris (France), Prague, and Brno (Czech Republic).
