Major police intervention underway in Jemappes

Many Mons residents will have noticed the significant police presence in Greater Mons this Saturday evening. The Mons/Quévy police zone is currently carrying out major interventions with particular attention paid to Jemappes. Several phases are underway. One focuses on traffic checks while the other focuses on judicial checks.

There are many teams present on the field. Four PUMA teams (intervention and proximity team), an ANPR vehicle allowing the identification of license plates, two narcotics detection dogs, two members of the zonal cycling teams as well as a police traffic and air support team federal are mobilized. “The federal police helicopter allows us to detect vehicles wishing to bypass police checks“, announces J.-H. Nicolay, Head of the Mons/Quévy Police Corps. “Two judicial arrests have already been made for people actively wanted for numerous crimes. Operations will continue into the evening.

This operation takes place within the framework of the will of the City of Mons and the police zone of Mons/Quévy to reinforce the police presence in the municipalities of Greater Mons. “This security operation is targeted and responds to our desire to strengthen the police presence in Greater Mons and thus respond to a legitimate request from the population.“, confides Nicolas Martin, mayor of Mons.

The talks will continue throughout the evening. Nothing will escape the vigilance of the police forces present in large numbers. Other targeted actions, in other places in Greater Mons, should take place during the year.
