Major outage at Sunwing: hell for travelers to Montreal

Vacationers who were scheduled to catch a Sunwing flight from Montreal to sun destinations were very disappointed to find that everything was delayed indefinitely due to a major outage in the airline’s system on Monday.

Hundreds of travelers were still trying to check in Monday noon, following hours of waiting at Montreal-Trudeau. Some vacationers had been there since 5 a.m.

“It’s been a long time since we traveled, my kids are super excited, my sister’s kids are excited, we haven’t had any information. We’re trying to get information, we’re getting it in dribs and drabs, they told us that it was pushed back to 3 o’clock to finally realize that it was pushed back to 7 o’clock in the evening. We are waiting, we don’t know,” laments a Sunwing customer on the spot.

“We have no guarantee that the 7-hour flight will work,” added another traveler.

The situation is deplored by the people met who, for some, only have one week of vacation, a week from which they must therefore already deduct a day.

It’s not just in Montreal that Sunwing is having problems. Return flights from Cuba or Mexico were also delayed, and had not yet taken off Monday noon.

A Quebecer stuck in Varadero told TVA Nouvelles that he had no idea when he might return to the country.

Sunwing said it is working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

“We sincerely regret the impact of this situation on our customers’ travel plans and are working diligently with our technology provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible so that regular flight operations can resume. We are doing everything we can to inform passengers of the impact on their flights, and we strongly encourage all customers with departing flights by tomorrow to check their flight status before heading to the airport.”
