Major works will continue at the Le Mans hospital center. After the railway stop and the interns’ house, commissioned this year, other projects have been announced.
9.5 million euros in aid
The mayors of the Metropolis, meeting in Le Mans, Thursday September 28, showed their support for the establishment. This aid will take the form of grants, of between €200,000 and €2 million.
In total, eight projects, representing a sum of 9.5 million euros of investment, were listed (see graph below): premises for welcoming interns, a crèche, renovation of emergency rooms, coworking space, insulation work, etc.
For operations estimated at 42 million euros
This aid will make it possible to launch operations estimated at 42 million euros over the next three years.
We need the public hospital in Le Mans to structure a large part of the medical offer, whether private with clinics or from the general practitioner. We have a pressing need to maintain the level of public hospitals.
Stéphane Le Foll, mayor of Le Mans and president of Le Mans Métropole
A hospital on drip
Equipped with “solid financing” before the Covid-19 crisis, the Le Mans hospital center must face an operating deficit of 15 million euros, underlines Stéphane Le Foll. “Activity has completely declined, there has been a decline. The hospital’s capacity to invest is completely reduced. »
100,000 patients are welcomed per year at the CHM, in an establishment which is not classified as a CHU (university hospital center). There is no question of elected officials falling behind in modernization projects.

“A major concern for residents”
This funding should make it possible to respond, at least in part, to the needs of health personnel, particularly surgeons, but also to the medical shortage affecting the department.
“This is a major concern for residents,” says Gilles Leproust, the mayor of Allonnes, recalling that the crisis also extends to psychiatry.
“There will still be investments to support”
This financial effort by communities, estimated at 25 million euros over six years, should last over time.
Once the projects are operational, “there will still be investments to support”, indicates Stéphane Le Foll.
Without forgetting the other structures of the department, the elected official wishes to “maintain access to local health”.
Example of this degraded situation: at Bailleul hospital, deliveries are suspended at least until November.
A message to the Minister of Health
In a letter sent to Aurélien Rousseau, the Minister of Health, Stéphane Le Foll, informed him that, “despite the initiatives and collaborative projects in place in the territory, emergency management essentially relies on the Samu-Smur of the CHM which he alone must absorb all the needs of the department.”
Like a call from the foot, the elected official considers it “necessary for the State to play its role of support and financier”.
