Major Fire Incident on Chaussée de Bruxelles: Picardy Wallonia Emergency Zone Deploys Significant Resources

Significant resources were deployed by the Picardy Wallonia emergency zone following the fire which raged this Wednesday around 7 p.m. in a house located at number 40 on the Chaussée de Bruxelles (N7). The Leuze-en-Hainaut barracks sent a pumper, the ladder truck, two tanks as well as a command and marking vehicle to the site. A pump and a tank from Rebaix also came as reinforcements.

The intervention mobilized around twenty-five firefighters. “When we arrived on site, the roof was already completely on fire with flames shooting through. The fire was also fully developed from the bottom upexplains Captain Éric Stasik, who directed operations. We were able to preserve the neighboring house and limit the damage, the roof having been very slightly affected.” The occupant will be accommodated with his family, for safety.

Fortunately no one was injured, but the damage was considerable. The two residents will be relocated by relatives. The origin of the disaster might come from an electrical problem that occurred on the upper floor of this accommodation located along the N7 (road linking Leuze to Ath).

Although the fire was brought under control a little more than half an hour following emergency services were deployed, the violence of the fire and the speed with which it spread took its toll on the accommodation.
