At around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, emergency services were alerted to a major fire in a residential and commercial building in Bergheim. The roof structure was on fire. The Bergheim volunteer fire department was on site with all fire engines and the Oberndorf turntable supervisor with six people. A total of 84 firefighters were on duty, including rescue and police, around 120 people were on site, as operations manager Christoph Zitz from Bergheim announced. A private crane company also had to be called in so that the roof area might be opened. “The house was able to be saved, but the former agricultural building, which is used as storage and business space, was completely burned out in the roof area,” says Zitz. “The residents were able to get to safety in time. There are no injuries.”
There is currently no further information regarding the cause of the fire. The fire brigade is currently busy extinguishing the fire and there will be a fire watch on Monday night.
