“Big fire at the Battice interchange”Lucas told us this Tuesday via the orange Alert us button.
Firefighters from the Vesdre – Hoegne – Plateau area were indeed called to intervene around 4 p.m. on the A3 at the Battice interchange, in the Verviers towards Liège direction. “This is a car fire and a truck fire. Very significant smoke release”the emergency zone informed us.
It was a refrigerated truck carrying cartons of milk that caught fire. “At the start of the fire, a tire of the truck burst, causing an accident., explains the Vesdre-Hoegne-Plateau area. The driver was transported, slightly intoxicated.
The firefighters carried out the extinction, from the section coming from the Battice roundregarding towards Liège, which also caused its closure. The SPW is salting the roads.
The intervention of fire crews ended around 7 p.m. but the highway remains closed “still some time to allow vehicles to be repaired”the VHP emergency zone tells us.
Traffic therefore remains difficult both on the highway and in the outskirts. “We recall the importance of the safety corridor in order to allow emergency and security vehicles to pass if necessary.”
In total, 16 firefighters attended the intervention (1 pumper, 2 tank trucks, 2 markers, 1 officer), according to details from the VHP emergency zone.
