Eight people arrested and weapons and drugs seized valued at more than $1 million dollars were the result of the dismantling of a Hispanic gang that operated from “Rufus King Park”, Jamaica neighborhood, announced the district attorney of Queens (NYC), Melinda Katz.
Prosecutors explained that some of the detainees are teens as young as 18 who operated a massive trafficking network, reported Patch.com. They identified as supposed leader of the operation to Adrián Escobar, known as “King Mango”, resident of Brooklyn.
Seven of the eight men are from two different families: Fernández and Escobar, accurate Pix11. in operations in houses in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, the police recovered four handguns, five pounds of cocaine, a cocaine press, over a pound of fentanyl, oxycodone pills, MDMA, Adderall and Xanax pills, and more than $67,000 in cash.
And undercover officer purchased five handguns from the now defendants over the course of a year-and-a-half investigation, prosecutor Katz said. “We seized drugs with an estimated street value of $1 million” dollars, she said. “The investigation was sparked by violence and drug sales in and around Rufus King Park.. What the police seized during these raids… confirmed what we suspected: that it was in fact a major traffic operation.
The accused face between 3 and 150 years in prison on charges including weapons, conspiracy, and sale and possession of drugs. Escobar faces more than 40 charges that might put him behind bars for 150 years.
“These men were major drug and arms traffickers who were a serious threat to public safety as peddlers of death and addiction,” Katz said.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
