Major disruptions to come in Brussels in the Van Praet and Trône tunnels until 2023: here are the details

Forewarned motorists are worth two: those who use the Van Praet and Trône tunnels are called upon to change their route over the next few months if they want to avoid being trapped in the queues. Brussels Mobility is undertaking several renovation projects for these two tunnels, with major repercussions on mobility.

As of May 9,earthworks and waterproofing renewal” open au tunnel Van Praet. †These interventions will take place from the surface (roundregarding between the Docks shopping center and Avenue de Vilvorde). Traffic will remain possible on the roundregarding, but on narrowed strips”indicates the Brussels administration.

But that’s not all: from January 2023 until autumn 2023, the tunnel itself will be the subject of work. It will therefore be closed in the evening, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Partially closed throne

Interventions in the Trône tunnel will begin on 16 May. “The sluice in the direction of the Basilica will be completely closed to traffic until autumn. The same goes for the hopper leading to Rue Belliard. The sluice of the Trône tunnel towards Midi will therefore be modified in order to accommodate traffic in both directions, on a single lane.explains Brussels Mobility.

In order to regulate traffic flows upstream of the Trône tunnel, the road network will already be reduced to a single traffic lane in the Porte de Namur and Arts-Loi tunnels. “We therefore advise motorists heading from Louise towards Arts-Loi or Belliard to stay on the surface from the Porte de Namur Tunnel and motorists heading from Madou towards Porte de Namur to stay on the surface from the Arts-Loi tunnel.

From mid-October, the situation is reversed in the Trône tunnel: it is the lanes in the South direction that will be closed. Motorists will therefore all pass on the part in the direction of the Basilica.

From the end of January 2023, motorists will once more be able to drive in both directions… but with still disruptions. “The rest of the work will be carried out at night. Until the end of 2023, the Trône tunnel will be closed on weeknights between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
