If the gourmet sets have been put away, but the smell is still in the curtains, all Christmas knick-knacks can be sold at the garden center for a bargain price. For Christmas fanatics, that means waking up early and stocking up. Even tho that also meant a little less ‘peace on earth’ on Friday morning.
The parking lot at the Coppelmans garden center in Veldhoven was packed on Friday morning. It’s day one of the sale. And that raises a lot of doubt in people’s minds. Buy a new Christmas tree, Christmas house or balls dirt cheap. The third day of Christmas is the perfect time for this.
“You notice that it really is a bit of a culture of grabbing,” says employee Harold. He saw his customers fighting with each other this morning as they really wanted a certain Christmas house. “But fortunately that has been resolved.”
“When I arrived at 9:10 am, the entire parking lot was already full of cars.”
Our reporter Lobke also ventured into the Christmas violence. She wanted to buy a tree cheaply. “I thought I was there early. But when I arrived at 9:10 am, the entire parking lot was already full of cars,” she laughs.
So Lobke was certainly not alone. While waiting in line she started talking to a 34-year-old woman from Waalre. She does not reveal her name, because she has let herself go a bit. “I came for one Christmas tree, but I have now bought three,” says the woman who ultimately did almost 600 euros worth of Christmas shopping. “I’d actually like to put some more in my house next year. And with a forty percent discount, I couldn’t leave them alone.”
