An accident occurred this Tuesday around 4 p.m. on the E19 motorway near Strépy-Bracquegnies, towards France. Contacted by us, a spokesperson for the federal police told us the facts. “A first accident occurred between a car and a heavy goods vehicle. As the semi-trailer pulled into the hard shoulder, a van hit the truck“, she told us.
The driver of the van became trapped in his vehicle. “He was extricated and transferred to hospital. He is slightly injured. No one else was injured in the accident.“, told us the spokesperson.
Heavy traffic jams
The collision caused major traffic jams. For motorists coming from Brussels, the queues went up on the E19 to Seneffe. For drivers coming from Namur, the traffic jams extended over several kilometres, to the western ring road of Charleroi.
Around 5:30 p.m., the recovery vehicle was still not on the scene to evacuate the truck involved. The traffic disruptions therefore lasted for some time.
The situation was restored at the beginning of the evening.
