Namrata Shirodkar started her journey of winning the Miss India pageant in 1993. Namrada is the granddaughter of 1930s Marathi film actress Meenakshi Shirodkar and sister of Bollywood star Shilpa Shirodkar. After winning Miss India, she made her Bollywood debut in 1998 with Jab Pyaar Kaise Hota Hai. The Mammootty-starrer Yehupunna Tarakan was the Malayalam film starring Namrata.
In 2004, following a career spanning seven years, Namrata ended her film career forever. It was following her marriage to Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu. Namrata says that before marriage, Mahesh Babu put a condition in front of her and that’s why she stopped acting. The revelation was made in an interview given to a Telugu channel.
Mahesh wanted a jobless wife. That’s why he didn’t act. His position was made clear earlier. He would have told me to quit even if I was working in an office instead of in a movie.
Namrata said that like Mahesh Babu, she too had a condition. He is from Mumbai. I had my apprehensions regarding living in Mahesh Babu’s big bungalow in Hyderabad following marriage. He said that if he wants to move to Hyderabad, he needs some time. After marriage Mahesh came to Mumbai. He finished all his films before marriage. After that all work was stopped. Never intended to return to acting. Namrata also said that it is not possible to leave the house and spend more time on the shooting sets.
