Maharashtra native dies at Kuthiravattom mental health center; Injuries to the body

Kozhikode ∙ Kuthiravattom Govt. Jiah Ram Jillot (30), a resident of Maharashtra, died at a mental health center under mysterious circumstances. The body was shifted to the Medical College Hospital for postmortem following injuries to the body. Another inmate at the mental health center said she had an argument with them yesterday evening. Authorities said the woman was found dead when a doctor arrived at the cell at 5:30 a.m. yesterday for a routine examination.

At the end of last month, Jiah was admitted to the Kuthiravattom Mental Health Center from Thalassery Mahila Mandir. She was wandering in Thalassery with her baby. After seeing the baby being beaten, the police intervened and admitted Jiah to the Mahila Mandir and the child to the Bala Mandir. According to Jiah, she was married to a Thalassery native in Maharashtra and left him following having a baby. She came to Thalassery in search of her husband. Jiah was transferred to the Kuthiravattom Mental Health Center following she showed signs of mental illness at the Mahila Mandir.

According to authorities, Jiah, a resident of Kolkata, was in the same cell at Kuthiravattam when a scuffle broke out on Wednesday evening and the woman from Kolkata was injured. Jiah was then transferred to cell number 10 in the fifth ward. But the corpse had a strong bruise on the back of the head. There are also nail marks on the neck. Blood was flowing from his nose and ears. Medical college police have registered a case of unnatural death. The inquest was conducted by Medical College SI VV Deepti in the presence of Tehsildar Ramya S Namboothiri.
