Mumbai: Leader of the Opposition Ajit Pawar wants to file a case once morest the Maharashtra government for the death of people due to sunstroke during an event attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This is a man-made disaster. Ajit Pawar demanded strict action.
14 people died due to sunstroke during Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony. Many people are under treatment. There should be a judicial inquiry into the incident. At least Rs 20 lakh should be given to the relatives of the dead and Rs 5 lakh to the injured. Ajit Pawar demanded that free treatment should also be ensured.
The opposition also criticized the followingnoon program. Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that the time was fixed by the organizers of the event and not by the state government. He asked not to mix politics in everything.
The deceased were those who had attended the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony for activist Datratheya Narayanan, known as Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, at Gharkhar in Navi Mumbai. The event was held in an open space in Navi Mumbai in a scorching 38 degrees. Thousands of people participated in the event.
The award ceremony started at 11.30 am and lasted till 1 pm. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Fadnavis participated in the event. Terming the incident as unfortunate, Shinde announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.
