On April 26th, a specialized subcommittee in Shizuoka Prefecture was held to discuss the “water problem” surrounding maglev construction. Among them, the heated exchange was the question of whether groundwater is from Shizuoka Prefecture or from Yamanashi Prefecture.

JR Tokai has been conducting a boring survey since February to investigate the geology and groundwater conditions. The survey is progressing from a point in Yamanashi Prefecture, 800m from the Yamanashi-Shizuoka prefectural border, toward the Shizuoka side. It was reported that the amount of spring water was very small.

The following exchanges took place over this water.

A person in charge of JR Tokai said, “In the current situation, there is no idea to return the water that came out of bowling in Yamanashi Prefecture to Shizuoka Prefecture.”

Takashi Mori, Deputy Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture: “At the stage where discussions on how to return (spring water) have not been finalized, there is an idea that we should stop (boring) for the time being. It has nothing to do with it, so the idea of excavating it as it is?”

JR Tokai “Is it correct to understand that the groundwater located 300m from the prefectural border (on the Yamanashi side) is Shizuoka Prefecture’s groundwater?”

Lieutenant Governor: “Isn’t that what we’ve been discussing now?”

JR Tokai: Is there any idea that the groundwater located 300m from the prefectural border is Yamanashi Prefecture water, not Shizuoka Prefecture water?

In the end, the person in charge of JR Tokai was also confused by the assertion of Shizuoka prefecture’s deputy governor.

《Even if it rains just once, the amount of water will be wiped out.

《Barren discussion, just wasting time》

《Don’t talk regarding such a silly story, even if it’s a fight between elementary school students lol》

《Looking at Shizuoka Prefecture’s claims, it is clear that she is not a person with whom to have a decent conversation.》

And the voices of astonishment are overflowing.

According to the materials published by JR Tokai, the amount of spring water is regarding 10 liters per minute. The hole at the tip of the boring is as small as 12 cm in diameter.

Of the 286km between Tokyo/Shinagawa and Nagoya, 8.9km of the maglev line passes through Shizuoka Prefecture. Moreover, everything is underground with a maximum depth of 1400m. The tunnel is supposed to pass through regarding 400m underground in the upstream part of the Oi River in question.
