In the neighborhood, everyone has already been amazed by this Christmas village housed behind the windows of a home. Visitors to CHwapi, the hospital center located just opposite, have heard regarding it and make a loop in front of number 50 rue des Sports. “People come from far away, they tell us they wanted to see that”Christelle Canard proudly tells us.
It all started regarding fifteen years ago. Luc Feron, his man, was then content to create scenes using figurines and figurines found in the galette des rois or on Christmas logs. Then he significantly improved the concept using Playmobils characters belonging to their daughter. But a domestic incident destroyed all the cardboard decorations in the attic, where they were stored. “Luc was discouraged. But I managed to convince him to start creating a village with characters and decorations from the Lemax brand. I had dreamed of it for a very long time. Every year following the holidays we buy new pieces on sale”.
From December 1st… to Lost Monday
The wooden horse carousel was the couple’s first piece. A great classic. Then the series was completed: with a ski slope, a church, a bakery, a police office, the ice rink, the chocolate factory, etc. “Every year, the village grows. This time, we added the fathere Christmas in his hot air balloon, a Christmas items store and a series of business houses, including a toys”.

Luc also brought an old project to fruition: that of including a train and a network of railway tracks. “I customized my old Lima steam locomotive I received when I was a kid in Christmas colors, I made a level crossing out of cardboard”, says this enthusiast of model making and miniatures. “I love creating atmospheres and entertainment: the Ferris wheel, children throwing snowballs at each other. It’s all these little details that give this village its charm.”
For several years, from December 1 at the start of the Advent calendar, the village has been set up. A week earlier, the shutters were lowered to allow Luc to calmly display all his characters and decorative objects. This is not an easy task. “We bought a large three-door wardrobe and it’s not big enough to hold all that: more than a hundred figurines, more than a hundred trees, all the rides, the houses, the village lanterns, etc.”
A different staging every year
After a long pre-assembly upstairs, in a bedroom, Luc takes everything down to stage the whole thing on several levels with this relief typical of a mountain village. “I want it to be different every year. People enjoy spotting outside, from year to year, certain pieces or attractions that have changed places.”

Editing lasts five days, ten hours per day. “The hardest part is making sure you hide the electrical wires.”
Like every year, Luc and Christelle’s Christmas village will remain in place until the weekend following Lost Monday. “It seems obvious to us to extend this festive atmosphere until our third New Year’s Eve, that of the Tournaisiens.”
