Really started at 16
Before you can become a specialist in a card game, you have to experiment with it, study it, and understand it. However, in the playground of the Diwan school in Brest, Riwan follows, like many, the trend: that of Yu-Gi-Oh! “I played there during the week with my friends, and even at the weekend,” he remembers.
At the age of 16, the native of Finistère (re)discovered the card game Magic: The Gathering. “It was an American friend who made me want to get back into it. I find it more demanding and more interesting,” says the enthusiast.

His renewed interest increases tenfold when he begins the game mode called “commander”. The principle: a game with four players, two against two, or “every man for his own”. “There can be alliances, betrayals. It’s the hype of the moment worldwide. She prioritizes fun,” assures the specialist.
In France, paradoxically, it is more one-on-one, sometimes with e-sport style, which is favored. The four-player game is growing.

A niche to explore
This is the vein that Wanri (his playing name) and Nico decided to explore. “After all, there were only three French YouTubers who talked about the commander game mode. And often they turn to specialists. In the United States, there are a lot of them,” explains the first.

How to play Magic?
At the start of a Magic game, each player has 20 life points, and shuffles their deck. The goal is to reduce the life points of your opponents to zero.
A third of the deck is land cards. This is money, the resources of the game. The more resources you have, the more powerful creatures you can summon. Knowing that with each turn, we gain ground, no more.
To play the commander game mode, there are different strategies. “Some bring many small creatures into play, such as small goblins, in order to overwhelm the opponent and remove a maximum of life points in a minimum of time. Others prefer to be patient and summon one or two super-powerful creatures,” says Wanri.

Growing success
Currently, there are over 2,100 subscribers on Youtube and over 1,800 on Tiktok. “We are already on an equal footing with certain YouTubers who have been publishing online for several years. I never imagined it would get this big so quickly. In the Ludis Factory store, three people recognized me,” says Riwan.
We hope to reach 10,000 subscribers within a few years. And why not make it additional income. To do this, we will need to find sponsors, while counting on donations from our audience. My big goal is to devote myself to YouTube part-time.

The enthusiasts have other projects up their sleeves: “In the more or less near future, we plan to produce filmed parts. It’s a complex exercise, which takes time in post-production, between editing, creating visuals, displaying the cards on the screen. »
