Magdeburg – Farmers from Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony demonstrated in large numbers on Saturday during an internal party visit by the Federal Green Party leader Ricarda Lang in Magdeburg.

In the followingnoon, up to 100 tractors and other vehicles blocked the streets in Buckau. The police were on site with a large contingent.

The mood among the participants was initially relaxed. According to a police spokeswoman, the farmers parked their machines around the venue and lit fires – some were grilling.

The messages shown on banners, however, were definitely martial. “Resistance cannot be banned,” is written on one flag in Fraktur script. A banner calls for “breaking the green wave.”

After Ricarda Lang’s arrival there were shouts of “Boo!” and a concert of horns, and some also said “We’ve had enough!” called. Lang then sought to talk to some farmers, said a police spokeswoman.

Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) defended Lang. According to Lang, he is committed to agriculture to the best of his ability.

She made the farmers an offer to stay in dialogue and meet at a later date in a different setting. The organizers of the demonstration had previously handed her a demand paper. The farmers were disappointed following the short exchange. We only heard the same phrases as always, said Martin Dippe from the Farmers’ Association.

However, the protest with the agricultural machinery had an impact on road traffic in Magdeburg. There were disabilities in Buckau. Schönebecker Straße was partially completely closed.

There have recently been several violent protests once morest the Greens. Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) was welcomed in Nuremberg in mid-February with a loud whistle concert and chants of “Get out!”.

Ricarda Lang was recently booed, insulted and prevented from leaving an event in Schorndorf near Stuttgart.
Lang actually wants to get her party involved in the European election campaign in Magdeburg.
