FC Bayern has stumbled in the Bundesliga. Former FCB coach Felix Magath identified a problem with the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

Munich – Again only 1:1. As in the previous week against Gladbach is coming FC Bayern also at Union Berlin didn’t have a 1-1 draw out. The offensive motor with 15 goals in the first three games suddenly stuttered – including a lost lead in the table.

Of course, given the lack of penetrating power in front of the opposing goal, the question Robert Lewandowski comes up. The Bavarians around coach Julian Nagelsmann or captain Manuel Neuer are visibly annoyed by the debate about the super striker, who continues to score his goals after moving to Barcelona. Ex-Bayern coach Felix Magath adds fuel to the fire and accuses the record champions of having put off Lewandowski’s successor plan.

Felix Magath
Born: July 26, 1953 (age 69), Aschaffenburg
Last coaching station: Hertha BSC
Coach at FC Bayern: July 1, 2004 to January 31, 2007
Title with FC Bayern: 2x German Champion (2005, 2006), 2x DFB Cup Winner (2005, 2006), 1x League Cup Winner (2005)

FC Bayern: Felix Magath would have solved the Lewandowski problem early on

In the first year after the Lewandowski era FC Bayern Munich it was foreseeable that the lack of the goal machine would quickly become the focus of the discussion when there was a problem with scoring goals. Bayern now have to deal with that. It was missed getting an adequate replacement such as Erling Haaland or building the successor alongside Lewandowski in recent years. Felix Magath is convinced of this thesis.

“If I had been Bayern coach three years ago, I would certainly have tried to solve this problem. But the problem has been shifted to this season. Such a striker who has guaranteed goals for the team is not that easy to replace. Bayern are noticing that now,” added Magath’s verdict Bild. The 69-year-old was Munich’s coach himself between the summer of 2004 and January 2007 and twice won the league and cup double with FCB.

Magath on Lewandowski’s successor: “Mané has to integrate now”

Instead of getting a real centre-forward like Lewandowski, Bayern decided on a different path before the season. came as a replacement Sadio Mané, a completely different type of player than the Pole. The Senegalese is fast, agile and tricky and, at 1.74 m tall, is also the shortest player in the FCB squad. Accordingly has Julian Nagelsman also changed the system in the variable Bayern attack to double leadership. Nevertheless, the Lewandowski hole could not be plugged.

For Magath, the main problem is obvious. “In a system that has worked, it is difficult to find a replacement. Lewandowski’s rhythm was perfectly matched to the team. Mané has to integrate now,” explained the ex-Hertha coach. In his opinion, Bayern, third in the Bundesliga, do not have to worry about the championship. “Even after two years, I don’t see any danger for Bayern that they won’t win the championship. They’ve been warned about the Champions League.” After the Berlin blunder a Barcelona newspaper scoffed at FC Bayern. (ck)
