The Senate validates Magali Plovie’s candidacy for the Constitutional Court
The Senate validated on Friday the candidacy of the current president of the Brussels French-speaking Parliament, Magali Plovie, as a judge at the Constitutional Court.
With a degree in public law from the ULB and initiator of deliberative commissions in Brussels, Magali Plovie has been a Brussels deputy since 2012 and leader of the Ecolo group on the municipal council of Forest. She will leave her political mandate when she takes office at the Constitutional Court next September, replacing Thierry Detienne, the Ecolo group of the Senate announced on Friday.
“When I started studying public law, the Constitutional Court was an essential place for me, a sort of beacon of human rights. I think it is fundamental, in a rule of law, for an independent body to ensure the role of guardian of respect for fundamental rights by legislators in Belgium”, explained Magali Plovie, quoted in the press release.
Ms. Plovie’s candidacy was supported by 47 votes. His appointment brings parity among the judges of the Constitutional Court, underlined the Ecolo group.
