Famous Sicilian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, captured in January following three decades on the run, died in hospital in central Italy, the ANSA news agency reported Monday. The 61-year-old man suffered from colon cancer.
Matteo Messina Denaro was arrested at a clinic in Palermo in January, where he was being treated, under an assumed name, for his cancer.

Born in April 1962 near Trapani in Sicily, he was number one on the Italian Interior Ministry’s list of the six most wanted criminals in Italy.
