AST International Airport: start of expansion and modernization works
After the laying of the first stones for the reconstruction of the aerodromes of Kankan, Faranah, N’zérékoré and Labé, it is around the Guinean capital to know the start of the expansion and modernization works of the Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport. The airport platform will be equipped with the latest generation technologies and spaces designed to ensure the best passenger experiences.
This large-scale project led by the President of the Transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya and his Government aims to increase the reception capacity of the Airport to 3 million passengers per year once morest 500,000 to date.
Everything will be done on an area of 220 hectares with an execution period of 18 months. This project will be executed by the Turkish company Albayrak. According to SOGEAC, the work will not prevent the normal course of air traffic. Once completed, the Ahmed Sékou Toué International Airport will mirror that of Istanbul.
This Saturday the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Dr. Bernard Goumou, accompanied by some members of the government, launched the work.
In his communication, the Director General of the Conakry Airport Management and Exploitation Company (SOGEAC) gave a brief overview of the composition of the airport expansion and modernization project.
It will be made up of:
A new 32,000 m2 passenger terminal, a new 3,600 m² cargo terminal, SOGEAC administrative offices, a control tower, a new fire station, a new power station, a Presidential pavilion, a GTA building, a hotel complex, not to mention the renovation of the runway and taxiways.
In his speech, the Minister of Transport, Félix Lamah maintains that this airport will be respectful of the environment and will be equipped with a solar energy supply. This will make him in this context, unique in West Africa.
He also reassures that the vision and determination of the President of the Transition will not allow the laying of the first stone which does not lead to a concrete achievement.
The completion of the airport works will provide the airlines, which are the main users, with a better framework for carrying out their activities.
On this, the Minister remains convinced that the realization of this project will make all Guineans proud.
