Denmark – The Maersk shipping group reported that the shipping crisis facing container traffic in the Red Sea is increasing, which will reduce the capacity of transporting goods between East and West by regarding 20% in the second quarter of 2024.
This came according to a statement issued by the giant shipping group, and “Maersk” and other shipping companies diverted ship routes to the Cape of Good Hope in Africa to avoid “Houthi” attacks, and the increase in journey time led to an increase in shipping prices.
“The danger zone has expanded, and attacks reach farther abroad,” Maersk said on Monday. “This has forced our ships to lengthen their journey further, resulting in additional time and costs to deliver goods to their destination.”
Due to the change in the route of shipping flights away from the Suez Canal, Maersk estimated that the capacity to transport goods between the Far East, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea will decrease by 15% to 20% in the quarter from April to June of this year.
