U.S. Naval Forces; Maersk Shipping Company is preparing to resume traffic in the Red Sea
Sana’a: Maersk Shipping Company, which has suspended cargo traffic through the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks, is preparing to resume traffic.
Maersk, the world’s second largest shipping company, decided to resume traffic following the US-led multinational force was deployed in the Red Sea to ensure the safety of ships.
“We have received information that the earlier announced multinational security force Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG) has been mobilized and maritime trade through the Red Sea has been allowed.
We are therefore planning to reroute through the Suez Canal, the corridor between Asia and Europe,’ Maersk said in a statement.
The Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on ships bound for Israel in response to Israeli attacks in Gaza. The Houthis have informed that they will attack the ships going to Israel until the end of the Israeli attacks in Gaza and have instructed the ships in this regard.
Shipping companies then stop transiting the Red Sea and divert. This led to severe crises, including in the oil market.
Following this, countries including the US, Bahrain, and the UK formed a multinational force to counter the attack by the Houthis. The U.S. said the Houthi offensive had shaken global trade and increased transportation costs.
Three European countries, including Spain, had withdrawn from their naval forces.
