The Venezuelan government assured this Friday that next week it will cancel the education sector workers 100% of the vacation bonus, one of the pending payments that in recent weeks has motivated protests by the teachers’ union in several cities.

“We managed to get 100% of the vacation bonus paid off to all workers next week,” said Orlando Pérez, president of the National Union of Teachers’ Unitary Forces (Sinafun), at the end of a meeting with ministers.

The union leader called for a union demonstration on Tuesday to join the dialogue tables established by the government, and reiterated his support for Nicolás Maduro who, he said, “will continue to solve the problems he hears” from the teachers.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education, Yelitze Santaella; of University Education, Tibisay Lucena; and Labor, Francisco Torrealba, who did not make statements to the media but confirmed the news through social networks.

“We have a president who deals with the education sector and heeds the call of teachers. Thanks to the unconditional support of the president, next week 100% of the vacation and recreational bonus for teachers will be paid,” Santaella said on her Twitter account.

Hundreds of public workers from the health and education sectors, as well as retirees, protested this Thursday in the streets of Caracas and in 16 other entities to demand respect for their labor rights and compliance with collective bargaining, a claim that began three weeks ago.

These workers protested once morest an instruction from the National Budget Office (Onapre), which contemplates the reduction of several benefits, as well as the delay in the payment of the vacation bonus, which should have been canceled at the end of July.
