Maduro expresses his “deep consternation” over the death of the president of Iran

The administration of Nicolás Maduro expressed on Monday its “deep consternation” over the death of the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, in a helicopter accident, while reaffirming solidarity with the government and people of the Persian country.

«Venezuela conveys its deep regret to the entire Iranian nation, to the families and friends of the deceased and hopes that the invaluable legacy of President Raisí, who demonstrated his loyalty and friendship with the Venezuelan people and government, continues in every act of well-being.“the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

He also reiterated the fraternal accompaniment “at such a difficult time and hopes that the investigations carried out by the competent authorities will promptly determine the origin and causes of this fatal event.«.

Nicolás Maduro said that he is overcome with “great pain” for having to fire a “exemplary person, an extraordinary leader of the world as he is and will always be» President Raisi.

«We share the feelings of their families and our Iranian brothers in these difficult times.“, he added.

Iran confirmed on Monday the death of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdolahian in a helicopter crash.

The helicopter carrying Raisi and his companions disappeared on Sunday when it was returning from Tabriz along with two other aircraft – which arrived at their destination without problems – and the official Iranian media reported at the time that it had suffered a “forced landing”, without explaining the cause.
