The Venezuelan president’s statements come following Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, expressed this Wednesday “all his support” to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, following Moscow recognized the independence of the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
“Venezuela announces all its support for President Vladimir Putin in the defense of peace in Russia, in defense of peace in that region, in the brave defense of his people and his homeland. All support for President Putin. All the I support Russia,” the president reiterated.
“We have been attentive to the events in Russia, in the Ukraine, observing, not just now, observing the evolution of the process where the North American empire and NATO intend by military means to put an end to Russia, to stop Russia and to put an end to this multipolar world that It is already a reality,” said the president through the state channel Venezolana de Televisión.
“The old colonialisms of Europe and the United States attack Russia, they attack China, they attack Iran, they threaten Turkey, they threaten Latin America, they attack Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Venezuela, the old colonialisms, the old superiority complexes of Europe and the old complexes of rapacious colonialism represented by NATO and the neo-colonialism of the US empire,” the president said.
Maduro insisted that the United States “since the emergence of the leadership of President Vladimir Putin has been preparing a strategic policy to surround, threaten and finish off Russia militarily,” and stated that “Venezuela announces all its support in the defense of Russia.”
“Putin has managed to recover in a decade, by 2010 Russia was showing signs of economic, financial, energy, military strength, in a decade he achieved a record in positioning Russia as a new power for peace, as a new power in the multipolar world, multicenter,” he said. Maduro also said that it was then that NATO began to breach the previously established agreements on the non-expansion of its military forces “in an offensive situation” towards Eastern Europe.
Commenting on the crisis around Ukraine, Maduro noted that Donetsk and Lugansk were initially forced to proclaim themselves People’s Republics due to the persecution of Russians and minorities in the territory of the neighboring country.
“The Lugansk Territory and the Donetsk Territory assumed the functions of People’s Republics to defend themselves from a massacre that the fascist sectors, which had seized power in Ukraine, began to carry out. Hunting men, hunting women, assaulting families, bombing with weapons heavy,” said the president.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ad this Monday his decision to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, following which friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance agreements were signed between Russia and both republics. Putin recalled that currently “practically not a single day passes without bombing the localities of the Donbass“.
At the same time, the Russian president ordered to the Ministry of Defense ensure peacekeeping by the Russian Armed Forces in both republics.
