Nicolás Maduro accused the United States of “stabbing” the next Summit of the Americas to be held in Los Angeles for its intention to exclude Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba.
“The United States government itself took it upon itself to stab the possibility of success at this summit,” he declared in an interview with southern radio.
Also, Maduro He expressed his gratitude and highlighted the “courage” of more than 25 countries that have expressed their solidarity and their rejection of the exclusionary policies of the US government.
«It is intended to hold a summit, but that is not a summit and less of the Americas. Almost 90% of the governments of the continent have had the courage, in different ways, to express their protest once morest exclusion », he pointed out.
“The meeting in Los Angeles where they intend to hold a Summit of the Americas is a contradiction. That is not a Summit, it is a meeting!” Maduro said.
The summit will be held from June 6 to 10 in the city of Los Angeles and for now it has not invited Cuba, Nicaragua or Venezuela in retaliation for human rights violations. The countries of the Community of Caribbean States have already warned that they will not attend the meeting.
In particular, Maduro has mentioned the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, who will attend the meeting. “I think it’s very good that he brings the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean to the meeting of the Americas,” he said.
Fernández is “a colleague who wants to help Venezuela and the region.” “In all his trips he talks regarding the need to lift the sanctions on Venezuela and Cuba,” he recalled..
