The Three Brothers and Niko…
promptly return with a new album following a three-year break. have in the meantime MADSEN founded her own label Goodbye Logic Records following 18 years of band history. It is quite logical that the new work “Hollywood” was also produced by their own label. So much in advance MADSEN have written an album with a lot of depth, it doesn’t take long until strong emotions come to the fore and will sweep you away as a listener. It starts with…
…”A bit of noise” – slightly distorted guitars start with downstrokes and immediately we hear Sebastian Madsen’s voice. After the first chorus, Johannes immediately delivers the first guitar solo and the second verse continues emotionally “I don’t need a brotherhood, I need my brothers”. An extended solo following the second chorus with a few unexpected notes and breaks also shakes up this first song a bit.
“Let’s build bridges”
The second song continues with a melancholic arpeggio. But no matter how slowly the second song begins, the drums come in in the pre-chorus and Sascha Madsen really lets off steam on the toms and then it’s off – one, two – “Let’s build bridges!” Absolutely great refrain in MADSEN style as we love it – powerful and honest. After the chorus, Johannes and Sebastian bang in the fat stereo guitars and have amazing breaks. The second stanza continues powerfully. The vocals are on the gas and in the background the rhythm guitar continues to play the same hammer beat as following the chorus, while the lead guitar supports slightly in the background. Suddenly – a short, very short change of rhythm and melody. That’s what I call a varied second verse! Pre-chorus and chorus set in and then it continues seamlessly with the same energy into the bridge, but once more there is a change in the melody. Then back into the chorus, but this time with just the vocals and rhythm guitar at the beginning before the whole band starts full force once more. No, the song doesn’t end here, the three brothers end this awesome song with a short and quiet last verse!
It goes on cheerfully
“The Best Of Mir” begins with a brisk and cheerful solo from the lead guitar, which later turns out to be the main riff. In the verse bass and drums play an interesting but very groovy beat. Already in the first few lines it is clear that this number will be a beautiful love song (and not the last one on the record). In the second verse, the lyrics also take on a further depth. Very nice to hear a love story that gets by without much melancholy. The core message is probably that it always takes two and everyone has to do their part to make everyone happy.
We stay on the relationship level. Hope everyone has a “Willi” in their life. A childhood friend, someone you can always count on. But even here it doesn’t happen by itself. You have to cultivate friendship, especially when it’s not easy, or when the distances increase (physically or mentally). “You can’t unlearn friendship” – a very nice philosophy.
The next song title is self-explanatory: “Marry Me”. An absolutely positive upbeat song that puts you in a good mood and has a strong chorus. During the instrumental bridge, the bass grooves neatly in the background. In the last chorus, Sascha really cranks it up once more and just throws fills and drum rolls around ???? And to round it all off, an organ shouldn’t be missing as a small stylistic element.
It continues with classical instruments. “Hollywood”, the album’s namesake, starts with strings. Now it’s time for bittersweet melancholy. A little boy is born into a loveless world and is not accepted by those around him. The only thing that gets him through the day is his dreams of a life where he is the celebrated hero and knows no boundaries.
Off to Hollywood
The band “Unter dem Radar” starts with powerful electric guitars and pounding drums. The verse is sung soulfully and is accompanied by a clear lead guitar. A mixture of calm, gentle sounds and hard rock elements.
Actually a good summary of the whole album. Because in the last song “We still have the sun” the boys let it bang once more! The drums shine here once more especially with insane fills and oppressive rhythms. In the bridge the guitar gets slightly psychedelic before the hammer-like riff from the beginning sounds once more. And with a last powerful chorus, pounding guitars and drums, the three brothers end the album!
With “Hollywood” MADSEN seamlessly tie in with their previous albums. Strong refrains, catchy melodies and deep themes – friendship, loneliness and love – characterize the whole record. German alternative rock gets another gem with this album. The game will be played in Vienna (Arena) on October 4th and one day later on October 5th. at the Posthof Linz – I’m looking forward to it.
