The Minister of Health of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ruiz Escuderohas stressed this Friday that the regional government cannot legally annul the OPE 2018-2019 with the aim of liberalizing more than 3,500 medical positions and other physicians in Madrid as requested by the Doctors Platform y Non-Fixed FEAs from Madrid.
“What these doctors are specifically asking for is something, some OPE positions, to give up this procedure and apply the temporary law, but the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid has issued a ruling that is very explanatory and that does not allow us to do it“, stressed the head of Madrid Health.
In any case, he pointed out, the General Directorate of Human Resources of the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) is studying “always in the line of progress” the claims presented by the Platform of Non-permanent Physicians and Other Physicians (FEAS) of the Community of Madrid, which brings together some 3,600 of these professionals in the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) and that it has called an indefinite strike on Tuesdays and Thursdays in May to demand solutions “to the abuse of temporality” that affects 53.9 percent of these professionals.
After the inauguration of the VII Congress of Interventional Bronchiology and Pulmonology and the XXVII National Congress of the Spanish Association of Respiratory Endoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology, the Minister recalled that the Community of Madrid has employment stabilization processes underway to make almost permanent 40,000 beds in the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) until the end of 2024.
Limit to temporality in the health system
In this way, permanent personnel will represent 92 percent on that date, complying with the 8 percent temporary period set in Law 20/2021 on urgent measures to reduce temporary employment in public employment. Specifically, it is regarding 9,000 places corresponding to the Ley 20/2021 and another 31,000 OPEs that are in different stages of development at Sermas.
The Madrid Minister of Health has stressed that the Ministry has maintained at all times “a very fluid dialogue” with non-permanent medical specialists and has once once more recalled that the monitoring of the strike “is being low”. “The dialogue with the Ministry is open”, he has settled it in any case.
